Brewing FFOX coffee with a Chemex is a wonderful way to bring out the delicate flavours of the coffee. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you achieve the perfect brew:
Ingredients:
- 18gm of FFOX Coffee in Chemex Grind
- 240ml of Hot water around 90°C
Equipment:
- Chemex Equipment
- Chemex Filter
- Timer
- Kettle (preferably with a gooseneck spout)
- Stirring spoon or paddle
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preparation: Boil water and let it cool slightly to about (90°C).
- Measure 18grams of FFOX coffee powder
- Set up the Chemex: Unfold the Chemex filter and place it in the Chemex, ensuring that the triple-fold side is facing the spout.
- Rinse the filter with hot water to remove any paper taste and to preheat the Chemex. Discard the rinse water.
- Add Coffee Grounds: Place the ground coffee into the filter. Gently shake the Chemex to level the coffee bed.
- Bloom: Start your timer and pour just 40ml in 90°C to saturate the coffee grounds evenly. Allow the coffee to bloom for about 30-45 seconds. This step allows the coffee to release trapped gases, enhancing flavour extraction.
- First Pour: After the bloom, begin pouring water slowly and steadily in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outward, then back toward the center. Pour about 80ml of water. Maintain a steady pour rate and avoid pouring directly on the filter.
- Second Pour: Continue pouring in a slow and steady circular motion until you reach a total of 120ml of water. This should take around 3-4 minutes from the start of the brew.
- Final Drip: Allow the water to completely drip through the coffee grounds. The total brew time should be around 4-5 minutes.
- Serve: Once the dripping has stopped, remove the filter and discard the grounds. Give the Chemex a gentle swirl to mix the coffee before pouring it into your cup.
